Wanna see something cool? Lilbart90 has announced on our PSP Development forums that he has found a way of adding IR keyboard support to v0.4a of Stealth Kill's CS Combined Assault port for the PSP. "All i did was copy the eboot from QUAKEPSP (with IR Keyboard) and replaced it with the eboot in the CSCombatAssault folder," posted lilbart90. "Voila it worked perfectly!"

Still skeptical? Check out the video below.

Remember guys, all of the original code in the download below were made by rein4ce and Stealth Kill. Lilbart90 just took both rein4ce's QuakePSP and StealthKill's CS Combined Assault homebrew games and found a way to make them work together in order to integrate IR keyboard support on the latter game.

You guys can download lilbart90's pre-made data below for some keyboard-busting Counter-Strike action on your PSPs. If you wish to discuss this release, click on the "visit" link below to head on over to our PSP Development forums.

*UPDATE* penpvdbs sent us a fixed keymap chart for the PSP Quake w/ Targus Universal Wireless Keyboard (the old one was corrupted: wondered why a Word doc would be only 8KB?). New download link below has the file you're looking for.

And just to clarify, says penpvdbs, rein4ce gets the credit for the PSP Quake IR keyboard code in the first place. penpvdbs used the debug version to map the Targus keyboard so it could work with PSP Quake. All in all, it's a team effort with everyone doing their thing.

The PSP Quake w/ IR keyboard support mod has received much appreciation from the PlayStation Portable (PSP) homebrew community. After all, that's Quake on your handheld units, how can you top that? Well, maybe with a similar mod. Homebrew coder penpvdbs dropped QJ.Net a note saying that he has made the game compatible with a Targus universal wireless keyboard.

Take note that the file is not yet available as of now because the coder is still using a test version. penpvdbs also added that before releasing a public version, he and reinf4ce would like to implement a few features like hardware rendering and a menu option for different keyboards.

So for the time being, the download below will provide you with a document file containing the mapped chart on how to use the Targus keyboard with PSP Quake. And as a proof of concept, the video clip below has also been provided by penpvdbs.

I hope you get this rebus: QUAKE PSP IR KEYBOARD - Image 1

Remember the video of the PSP Quake port being played with a PalmOne IR keyboard? Likee the PSP Quake port being played with the PalmOne IR keyboard? Well, thankee rein4ce, for he's made the binary files to the IR-keyboarded PSP Quake available through PSP-Hacks.

The way we understand the provided download, it's a mod of the original EBOOT in a complete PSP Quake binary set. The EBOOTs in this pack replaces their respective EBOOTs in the original PSP Quake and from there, you can now use the IR keyboard with the 'brew.

Download link below takes you to the keyboard EBOOT mod. If you need the original PSP Quake homebrews, you could try one of these links to begin with, and see if it works (probably the second one). Do note that they may require that you have some Quake-related data files, which can be found if you have the PC version of Quake.

rein4ce over at YouTube posted a video we thought the FPS fans may want to see, as it deals with the PSP's much-celebrated Quake port. According to the coder, this PSP Quake version had been modified to run with the PalmOne Infra-red (IR) keyboard, which you guys may have seen in use on packs like Zx-81's PSPATari v1.0.7.irkb Atari emulator homebrew. See the video to check out its functions:

There's no download link at the moment, which is a major bummer given how much fun PSP Quake was even on the PSP's admittedly FPS-unfriendly buttons and thumbstick. We'll just have to wait, and hope rein4ce decides to share this PSP Quake mod. Cool - all we need now is a mouse mod, and we're all set.
