PSP - Image 1Sometimes, browsing the Internet using a PSP or a PS3 can be a good alternative to doing it on a desktop PC or a laptop. The only huge drawback to this is the text input system on both devices. Of course, you can use a keyboard with either system, but what if you don't have one?

That's where shortcuts come in. These can make browsing via the PS3 and PSP a more hassle-free endeavor. To help people get acquainted with how to go about using shortcuts, the Sony Protection Group has come up with an easy tutorial on how to do just that. Here are the steps:
  1. Visit OpenDNS and click Get Started.
  2. Choose the router option and your router model.
  3. Log in to your router. Often, the preferences are set in your web browser, via a URL with numbers (example: http://192.168.0.1). You may need a password.
  4. Find the DNS server settings.
  5. Scan for the letters DNS next to a field which allows two sets of numbers, each broken into four groups of one to three numbers.
  6. Put in the OpenDNS server addresses as your DNS server settings and save/apply.
  7. Please write down your current settings before you entering the OpenDNS addresses, just in case.
  8. Restart your computer and router. Visit: welcome.opendns.com to verify all is well.
  9. Create an OpenDNS account as this will give you the ability to create shortcuts. Once logged in click the Networks section and add your current IP address. Now start creating your shortcuts! Type these shortcuts into any browser on your LAN like your PS3 or PSP and you are there.
Try it out and let us know how you find it. Has it made things easier or do you guys prefer to use homebrew apps (in the case of the PSP, anyway) to help with your typing? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

LuaAirForce - Image 1 LuaAirForce - Image 2

Homebrew developer for the PSP, yoyomacy, dropped by our forums once more and shared to us that he is releasing LuaAirForce 0.4 with online feature. He says that he wouldn't have done this game without the help of Tactical Paper, pspgamer, and cools. So with that he divulges what's new with this release.

He mentions that the game is now blessed with a new menu, smaller files, and a health bar. Yoyomacy was able to add other play modes - button smasher mode and ultra speed survival. In smasher mode, you are tasked to kill a slow moving boss that's coming towards you. If he was able to touch you, you're dead. The ultra speed survival is self-explanatory, but basically, it will determine how long you can last in super speed.

On the online features side of things, yoyomacy mentions that "online feature is using your wireless internet router, face someone by obth starting at the same time, and you can see your opponents score, and see who can go longer and last longer." With that, here are the other new things you could expect from this version.
  • space out levels more and more weapons
  • Planes now scroll off screen instead of popping off
  • Animation when planes are shot and bullet now has tracer-like red on it
  • At certain levels the speed ACTUALLY increase and ammunition limit added
  • Points are gained when enemies are shot
  • Code was cleaned up a bit, runs smoother.
  • Sometimes explosions stop midway through and sit there until planes move off screen, especially at high speeds with the small planes
  • No more Bullet.lua, combined with game.lua. Minor buggies were fixed
  • Start or Select now exit the game
  • ONLINE DUAL (please do not use this feature for a few days because the server is currently down)

iR Shell v2.1 - nethostfs Mac

Dagowatt, a coder from the iR Shell forums, has released a new updated version of his nethostfs application for use with Ahman's recently released homebrew shell program for the PSP, iR Shell v2.1. nethostfs allows iR Shell to interface with your PC and load files from it. It permits you to view and execute applications using files from your PC via a WiFi connection - just like having your PC hard drive in your memory stick slot.

This latest version is a Mac OSX port for nethostfs v1.5. It is currently in a beta stage and as such may include a few bugs. The only known bug at the moment means if you listen to a .mp3, you can not open .JPG files from your PC. This has been tested with iR Shell v2.1, but any bugs should be reported to Dagowatt in order to improve this program for future releases.

Have fun browsing your PC with your PSP - no wires required! If you don't have a WiFi router, remember that you can find the Mac OSX version of usbhostfs (the same as nethostfs but using the USB cable instead of Wi-Fi) here.
