Aion informed us that the PSP Kanji v2.1 file that we hosted earlier has a missing Eboot file. It's a good thing that he was kind enough to provide us with a download link for the fixed download for PSP Kanji v2.1. Go ahead and grab it for yourself. Again, if you encounter any problems, let us know through your comments.

Download: PSP Kanji v2.1 (fixed download bundle)

Sammy Fatnassi is back with an updated version of PSP Kanji in tow! Now on version 2.1, the Kanji-learning software for the PSP, now has a quiz mode for Katakana and Hiragana, quiz in both English and Japanese, plus it now has a simple menu that you could use.

Now, in case you haven't been reading on our past reports, this app will let you create Kabanji/ Hirigana/Katakana lists. It would also get you covered in the pronunciation department and will test your Japanese knowledge via the flashcard quizzes that were a staple of the app ever since it was released.

In the future, the dev plans on revamping the user interface with better graphics, add support for skins and other languages, and plans to make it available under Linux. Oh, and before you try to learn a new language, better check out the release notes that comes with the download so as you'll have a better grasp of the app. We thank Aion for the heads up!

Due to a very annoying bug in the app, it took Sammy Fatnassi quite a while to update his homebrew app for the PSP called PSP Kanji. And just in case you weren't able to catch the v1.0 release, here's a quick primer: PspKanji is a Kanji-learning software for the PSP which will teach you basic Kanji, Hirigana, and Katakana.

You'll be able to create Kanji/Hirigana/Katakana lists as well as practice the proper pronunciation for the words. It'll also test your Japanese knowledge via the flashcard quizzes, which will ask you to translate English words to Japanese. And like Fan's Japanese Dictionary, Sammy's PspKanji can also be used as a Kanji dictionary of sorts.

So anyway, Sammy wants to give a shout out to the following people for helping him out with this app: The Ps2dev for the cooperation and support one find therein, Tyranid for PspLink, James Breen, for the Kanji dictionary compilation (KanjiDic) and for making this software possible. We here at QJ should probably start learning some Japanese ourselves, it'll definitely help us understand those scans we feature every now and then, eh?

Oh, and I almost forgot, for installation instructions, version history, and other important whatnots, click on the read link below. And as always, check out the all-important readme file for anything else you'd want/need to know. That said, go on and...

PSP Kanji Screen

Sammy Fatnassi has emailed us with a new release today, PSP Kanji. This is the first release of PSP Kanji, a Japanese Kanji learning tool for the PSP. For those of you that don't know what Kanji is, it's a form of Japanese character writing, originally derived from Chinese. So if you fancy learning a bit of Japanese writing, or you just want to brush up on an old skill, feel free to try this out!

This version is quite good as it splits different forms of Kanji into different Japanese grades associated with them. Although this is pretty basic, Sammy Fatnassi plans to add many new features for future releases, including quizzes and other learning tools to make Kanji learning even more fun - as if it isn't already! Also, Sammy plans to release the source code when he is satisfied with it, allowing all you budding Kanji masters to write your own version of this one or modify it.

Features:
  • Prototype version, got some nicely animated windows, displaying Kanjis information.
  • Ground work mostly completed
To do list:
  • Add different quiz mode
  • Add ability let user create their own kanji list for quiz
  • Add support for french
  • Work on GUI
  • Add shadow to fonts
Sammy would also like to thank James Green for his Kanjis compilation Kanjidic, which inspired Sammy in writing PSP kanji.
