Jimmy has released a German language file for Shallan's X Word homebrew flash game for 2.7 PSPs. X Word is a crossword puzzle viewer, originally released back in May, that allows you to make your own puzzles and share them with others. Simply replacing the CW.xml file in your X Word root directory will change the puzzle questions and answers. Jimmy has made this for all those German PSP users out there, and this file covers computers, general knowledge, the PSP, and capital cities. This version has over 250 questions available for German users to spend hours on in order to complete the crossword. This is good for Germans and other nationalities alike, as I know full well pondering over these questions. I used to know a bit of German, and now I realise how little I do know! Jimmy would like to thank the original creator of X-Word, Shallan, for all his hard work on this game, and making this German version possible. The original X-word is required, so please download it first if you have not done so. If you already have X Word installed, overwrite the existing CW.xml with the one provided in the German language file download. Homebrew overachiever Shallan is back with another program that's meant to make life easier for people like me who is still trying to covince myself that I did the right thing when I updated my PSP's firmware. PSP Flash Auto Installer v1.0 automatically installs swf(s) in a location specified by the user and creates a bookmark in the browser for it. With this program, we 2.7 users can distribute flash content (or browser content) that will autoinstall in our units. According to Shallan, all we have to do is put the file/files into the data folder and change the setup.ini accordingly. Below is Shallan's example of the setup.ini file using his game Xword. Title = Xword (Title displayed on the installer and also in the bookmarks) Path = PSP/Xword/ (Path to copy data to on the PSP must terminate in a / ) Start = PSPXword.swf (The file to run when the bookmark is clicked) Make sure there is at least one entry bookmarked because the installer will quit. Note this will work on most versions of Windows except NT4. For you Apple People, don't fret. Shallan is releasing the Mac version in a few days. If you've already played Treasure Island Dizzy, based on the original 1987 game Dizzy by Codemasters or the virtual crossword game X word, then you're already familiar with Shallan's impressive resume.
Here's another PSP flash game from him called Portaball. Playing around it for while gave me a quick impression that it is a clone of the classic Breakout game, where you bounce the ball using a paddle to prevent it from falling and in turn bashing all the bricks above it. Having studied some flash myself, I know that making this one is not that easy. Well, after all the game is not entirely graphics-based so I guess just a little tweak here and there will make this game better than its already-cool state. Overall, I think that it's a pretty decent flash game for your PSP.
However, for those that want a cut-throat highly competitive game, you might want to pass on this one, but if you have more than enough time to spare, this is something that you can play to kill some of it. Looking forward to more games from you Shallan! Shallan has hosted this one (along other of his flash-based games) in his PSP-formatted website. It is, however, on free hosting making the site prone to chrashes. If you intend to play it regularly, we suggest you download the .swf file and put it on your memory stick. Then, to play the game, simply type in "file:/PSP/*Insert directory here*/Portaball.swf on your PSP's web browser. If you download it using your PSP's File->Save link target function, you can access it from "file:/PSP/COMMON/Portaball.swf". Download: [Portaball] |
