Doom is probably one of the few titles that has been ported many times by the ever hardworking homebrew coders we have around. Just like today, QJ.NET reader CJ sent us word regarding another iteration from Chilly Willy. The coder gave this explanation for this release:
Here's my conversion of ADoomPPC, one of the better DOOM conversions (for the Amiga). It's got a simple, decent gui that runs before you start the game which allows you to set most of the major DOOM settings. On the Slim PSP, it supports TV out. This arc includes the source, two sets of MIDI instruments and the shareware WAD file. This really is a good development for the homebrew scene because most consider Doom as one of the forerunners of the FPS genre. Chilly Willy added that while this was created on PSP Slim & lite running on CFW 3.71 M33-2, it has also been tested on PSP Fat running on CFW 3.52 M33-4. For those of you who are wondering, Chilly Willy's Doom for the PSP doesn't work with networking and cheats. Download: Doom for the PSP |

TheLazy1, a PSP and DS coder from our forums has released a new homebrew game that is bound to get vintage PC gamers all excited. As the title suggests, Wolfenstein 3D Test is a beta version for TheLazy1's Wolfenstein 3D port for the PSP using the open source Wolf3D shareware version. You can tell this is a beta as currently there is quit e a large list of things that still need to be done, but gameplay is good and the speed at which the game plays is very good. If you like wartime Nazi-bashing shooters then this is for you. This game predates even the earliest of FPS games - including Doom - so getting your hands on it is like taking a trip back to gaming history, before games had amazing graphics; a time when the gameplay counted the most. Currently this game has no sound, no music, no save game function, no loading and you can only use the analog stick for movement (even in th menu) at the moment, but these are early days. This test version will also probably contain a few bugs, so report them in the forum release thread so that Thelazy1 can fix this for future releases. I'll stop talking now so you can check the screenshots and get this baby on your PSP! The game comes in 2 formats, one in Kxploited download for firmware 1.5 and one in 1.0 format which could possibly work on 2.71 with Dark_Alex's Homebrew Enabler Rev C - test it out! If you're tired of converting your PSP videos using old software, you might want to give PSP Movie Creator 2.0 a try. This program is said to convert DVD movies and move them right from your PC to your PSP in just one click. It also promises a 400% faster conversion rate, and better video quality. The PSP Movie Creator can also compress a full length DVD movie or video into a 256MB or larger PSP Memory Stick. For those who haven't tried converting videos before, then this one is for you, with its intuitive and easy to understand interface. The PSP Movie Creator is shareware and can be downloaded and used for a certain period of time for free. At the moment, the software only runs on Windows, so Linux and Mac users may have to wait until a version is created for them. This shareware supports various video formats such as DVD, DivX/XviD video, avi, wmv, mpg, mpeg, Tivo2Go, and many more. It also doesn't require a PSP UMD video disc.
