piKey from Noobz - Image 1

Homebrew developers Cleanser23, Angelo, Lunix, Hells Plumber, Wakaru, and Joseph have teamed up to create a new piKey build with permission from Fanjita. The new program aims to address bugs in version 0.3 of the program, and to "finally" make it compatible with 3.71 M33.

The new program, called "Unofficial piKey 0.4" is still currently in the works and the team is looking for ideas and assistance in terms of programming. In their words, they need help with "simple tasks that only require a good knowledge of C and to be set up in a dev environment." Here are their notes:

We've done the following so far:
  • Fixed the 'x' button issue, not 'x' shows as the correct one, not the multiplication one.
  • Added new, improved and cleaner keymaps (added Targus and Palm) and have created our own custom Targus CTRLMap.txt
  • Found and created a small portal for the release. (Existing PSP Windows Portal and a created EBuddy one)
  • Made the installer better and cleaner.
  • Added 100% working Targus, Palm and Hama maps! (Hama driver I believe is still a bit funny Undecided)
  • Made a Targus expansion pack with a working Keymap and user friendly CTRLMap.
What we are working on:
  • Add key repeats for the Targus keyboard so you can hold down a key and it'll autotype instead of tapping it many times. (almost done.. pointless agreeing to sign up for this job)
  • Add a function so you don't have to press the 'select' key to have to correct character input. This will make the release perfect.
  • Add a function so a message is displayed when CAPS/Num/Scroll is on. (almost done.. pointless agreeing to sign up for this job)
  • Finally... make it compatible with 3.71 M33
Head over to the forum thread to know the full details of the program in development. And just in case you do want to share you coding talents to the UPK Team, then by all means...

Sony PSP - Image 1Sony PSP homebrew developer Zx-81 has released yet another nifty PSP homebrew application. It's called PSPWrite version 1.0.1, and as the name suggests, this is a simple text editor which is easier to use than Notepad.

zx-81's PSPWrite version 1.0.1 allows users to edit even large text files in both dos and unix mode, using iso8859-1 (8bits) characters encoding. All iso8859-1 characters are present in the "Danzeff like" virtual keyboard.

What's more, PSPWrite has IR Keyboard support. It's based on the work of Harald Fielker who authored the PSP IR Keyboard Library with a new patch from Craig to support Sprint PCS IR keyboard. PSPWrite version 1.0.1 was developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and 3.40-OE. It was  tested using a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard.

Everything else that you'll need to know about PSPWrite version 1.0.1 can be found in the readme, so don't forget to check it out. Sources are included in case you want to have a look at them. Download these three files and enjoy typing away!

PSPSSH v1.0.9 - improved characters support - Image 1Homebrew developer zx-81 just rolled out a new build of pet application PSPSSH over at QJ.NET PSP Development Forum bringing it up to version 1.0.9.

For the uninitiated, before we proceed, PSPSSH is a SSH2 client for the PlayStation Portable based from Matt Johnston's server and client Dropbear v0.48.1. With this program, users are given remote access to their SSH-enabled PC units.

This allows them to enter commands and run scripts from the handheld as if they're exactly right in front of their personal computers. We listed down the changelog for this version provided by zx-81:
  • Add iso8859-1 characters support in vt100 emulation
  • Add word.txt file to paste words in vt100 console (words in this file can be written using UTF8/unicode)
  • All text fonts are now compatible with iso8859-1 characters
  • Add all iso8859-1 characters in Danzeff virtual keyboard
  • Bug fix in IR keyboard .ini files with UTF8 specification (for example mapping string such as "u+c3a0" didn't work properly)
  • New Targus mapping with French characters mapped from ALT 1 up to ALT - (see targus-include.ini file for more details)
Please refer to the Readme.txt file included in the download before installing and running the client on your PSP units to avoid any problems. The download package below includes builds compatible with FW 1.5, CFW 3.xx OE, as well as the source code.

PSPIRC v1.0.1: IRC Client for PSP - Image 1

Homebrew developer zx-81 dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development forum a while ago and release a new application called PSPIRC. Just like the name suggests, this program is a basic Internet Relay Chat client for the Sony PlayStation Portable. It was based from Danzel's IRC engine and zx-81's very own PSPSSH.

Furthermore, the IR keyboard support of the client was based on the work of another coder Harald Fielker. The keyboard support was tested using a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard. This is just the first public release of PSPIRC v1.0.1 and here are its current features:
  • IR keyboard support
  • Danzeff virtual keyboard for all text input
  • Profiles to store Login/IRC servers data
  • Save log files
  • etc...
The download package below includes separate builds for PSP FW 1.5 as well as CFW 3.xx OE. A source code has also been included for those who want to improve the program. Take note that both builds come with a Readme file which include pertinent information and installation guidelines.
