Sony PlayStation Portable - Image 1PSP homebrew developer theketchupman dropped by our QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce the release of two related applications.

The first app in question is the latest release of PRX Launcher (v1.0), a plugin that's used to open any homebrew you've got stored in your PSP. The new build is reportedly compatible with custom firmwares 3.5x M33, 3.40* (WildCard) and OE (Dark AleX), though it's advisable to run PRX Launcher on kernel 1.50.

This new release was announced so that the guys can use another homebrew that Team Vertex Origins (Team XK joined them recently)  has also released: Multi Recovery Launcher v1.0. This homebrew is reportedly compatible with all CFW types (1.5 POC, IE, EE, OE, M33, *).  PRX Launcher appears to work on most other homebrews, such as PSP Filer.

That's the lowdown on these two new applications - more information (such as usage details) are available in their corresponding release threads over at our QJ.Net Forums, and via the Devsgen site.

PSP Homebrew: Speed Puzzle v0.1 - Image 1

A new member from Team XK, Trystyl has released Speed Puzzle v0.1. The game is based on the puzzle game Taquin, or a slide-puzzle game. You essentially move the blocks around until you properly form the image. The catch is, you have to slide all the blocks into position given only one vacant hole. If this sounds confusing to you, don't worry, once you load it everything will be made clear.

The readme file included is in French, although the game itself has already been translated into English. But from what we could gather, Trystyl gave a list of the features of the game in it as well as a short background on it.

Features:
  • 4 puzzles
  • Menus are animated
  • Random puzzle selection
  • Filtering of the impossible puzzles
  • Timer
  • Customizable number of rows and time for the puzzles
That said, download the game and check it out. Be sure to read the readme file (run it through a translator, it should be made clearer for native english speakers.)

theketchupman passed by the QJ Forums the other day and he had a few things to say. What is it? Well, it's just that Team XK released their first version of Sudoku XK for the PSP. Yes, sudoku. Curious as to how it will look and play? Check out the screens below:

The things on the team's "to do" list for this nicely brewed game includes adding more music, a high scores feature, even more sudoku puzzles (just ten in this first release), and hopefully a difficulty selector.

Anyhow, download the game via our link below. If you want to talk more about this game, head to the Forum Release Thread via our second link below.

Good work Team XK!

PSP - Image 1What is the PRX Launcher v0.4 for all 3.XX OE? It's Team XK's contribution to the homebrew community which is a plugin which can launch an eboot from an icon, that's what!

But unlike the previous releases, you will find that there have been some new stuff added or tweaked (duh, that's why it's a new version). So, in this file, there are 5 prx identified as (deep breath) HBx.prx (x=1 .. 5). Each HBx launch ms0:/PSP/SYSTEM/HBx/EBOOT.PBP.

theketchupman explains that it's been put in the System folder because you won't see the file in the Game menu on vsh. Now, for you to get it running, you'll have to rename the hbx into a plugin name, and then flash it to your PSP. If you think you need more of them prx, then hexedit the path of the HB to launch.

As for the important things you need to know, there are three:
  • not capable of launching kxploit homebrew (you'll need to use 1.00 hb)
  • no compatibility issues with SCEP
  • some hb (like snesxstyl) may have problems -- but only a few
And then there are those danged bugs. He says that "It seems you can't launch any Eboot that uses/modifies the flash (liek PSPFiler for example); it's because we can't get this PRX to work in kernel mode under 3.40 OE..."

So, to sum it up, the PRX Launcher v0.4 is now working on 3.30 and 3.40 OE, and although it's only been tested on 3.40 OE, it should work nicely with 3.30 OE.

Got it? Good. Now pick it up and thank theketchupman over at our forums.

PSP - Image 1First, we're announcing that team 280 had a name change - they now go by the moniker Team XK. Second, Team XK's theketchupman is letting everybody know that their "PRX that launches Recovery Mode or even EBOOT" (dubbed the PRX Launcher for short) has just received an update, and should now be available for downloading.

As a refresher: This PRX basically allows you to launch an EBOOT program - which comes in handy in case you need to launch an EBOOT from the XMB Icon. Here's the changelog:

Update Version 0.3f
  • Added two more plugins (htmlviewer = browser, and camera).
  • Flash the plugin(s) into flash0:/VSH/NODULE.
Update Version 0.3
  • Now, you can launch from every folder you want (you can for example launch an eboot in ms0:/PSP/SYSTEM ). It cant (for the moment) load anything from flash0 / flash1...
  • There's only the four PRX (premo, license, update, lftv). Flash it with the generic flasher, or via recovery. Config files are still the same (premo.txt, license.txt, update.txt and lftv.txt in PSP/SYSTEM).
Just make sure to read up on their forum thread to get the full details on how this app works, and remember that it was built to run on 3.03OE and 3.10OE. As always, we remind you to be careful - homebrews like these are handy, but always run the risk of bricking your PSP if not handled properly. For now, we'll have to wait for any further updates.
