QuickJump QuickPeek - Image 1Can you feel the buzz now? We're definitely gearing up for E3. To be honest, I don't think we've ever been this excited about the E3. It just feels so wonderful to get that zing on once more, especially after the really, really, really tough past year for the gaming community. Good thing the industry continues to trudge along, making sure that our entertainment is their number one priority. And as you are our priority here at QJ, here's another week of recapped goodies for you, via our 71st edition of QJ QuickPeek.

That bear with the bad touch - Image 1There's a new bill being hatched in Texas that may require convicted sex offenders to register their gamertags and other account names for online game networks like the PlayStation Network and Second Life with the fuzz. The new bill is called HB 22 and is headed to the Texas House of Representatives. If it passes there, it's next stop will be the Senate.

Sony, Nintendo, Nokia Sued Over Wireless - Image 1These patent infringement lawsuits really are getting out of hand. This time, Sony, Nintendo and Nokia are being sued over a patent for an invention that will "allow an operator to distribute messages having aural or visual content that is generated by the operator using handheld apparatuses such as mobile telephones."

I'm wondering why they stopped at three companies. They should sue every major electronics company while they're at it.

Austin Game Developers Conference 08 - Image 1Leipzig's over and the Tokyo Game Show won't be till October. But that doesn't mean there won't be any other conferences around to satisfy ever-curious gamers' appetites. And this time, we won't even have to fly overseas. The Austin Game Developers Conferences is coming up next, and they've added in a nice touch to this year's event.

Gamecock Media Group - Image 1Independent works will always have a hard time finding its niche in an already established market, and video games are no exception. Usually the bottomline in creating a game is creativity versus profitability.

Steve Escalante, Business Development VP of the Gamecock Media Group, talked about this subject during the Texas' Independent Game Conference. Read more in the full article.

PSPXTI v1.1.0 screenshot - Image 1Resident PSP homebrew coder (and emulator guru) Zx-81 dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce the release of PSPXTI: A TI-92 Calculator emulator v1.1.0.

As its name implies, this homebrew application is a PSP port of the Unix-based XTiger emulator (Unix version 0,8), based on Texas Instrument's TI-92 calculator. The original XTiger app was written by Jonas Minnberg, but was eventually passed on to Misha Nasledov under a General Public License (GPL). As for the latest changes in version 1.1.0:
  • New user interface
  • Use Virtual keyboard
  • Use SDL library
  • Render mode max (fullscreen)
  • Add keyboard mapping menu
  • New help window
  • New background image
  • Multiple keyboard mappings feature :
  • You can now toggle between 3 different keyboard mapping using LTrigger and RTrigger keys
  • Delete files option
  • Bug fix in the file requester
  • Compatible with firmwares 2.x, 1.5, and custom fw 3.X-OE.
Zx-81 further notes that you will need a ROM of TI-92 or TI-92 plus to get this app working. That's the skinny on PSPXTI's details - extra information can be found in the file README, Zx-81's site, and at the app's release thread at the QJ.Net Forums. With that said, enjoy the download!
