Triple Triad v0.1 - Image 1 Triple Triad v0.1 - Image 2

Months back, we featured homebrew ports of one of the famous games featured in PS1's Final Fantasy VIII- Triple Triad. Almost every gamer who got tickled with the Squall-Rinoa romantic tension knows this game, but for those who don't know what Triple Triad is and who Squall and Rinoa are, well here's a little refresher.

Triple Triad is a semi-complex card game wherein you'll have to obtain as many of the opponents cards as possible, using a number system. It can be quite strategic and from what other people who are FF lovers are saying, quite addictive.

So why the trip down memory lane? After Sakya and JBird gave their rendition of the card game in the PSP, now comes TheEmulatorGuy's turn. The good developer entered this WIP into the PSP3D Contest and so far have been getting good feedback. Since there are still a lot of room for improvement, it only features the capability to play against AI players using closed and random rules - for now.

TheEmulatorGuy has big plans for this creation of his as he plans on adding two player support and all the rules featured in FFVIII. Aside from that, in the future, the game will be coupled with the RPG system that will enable players to trade and play with other characters. Things are indeed looking up for this game.

As always, you could comment about this Triple Triad port and who knows, you might help TheEmulatorGuy win the competition. Not only would he win goodies and other giveaways, but the ego-boost might make him slave harder for this one. Let's wait and see, for now, give the game a chance and try it out.

ID3PSP

TheEmulatorGuy from our forums has released v1.0 of his ID3PSP homebrew application today. Although coinciding with the release of ID3lib v0.9, this uses none of the code from ID3lib and has all been coded by TheEmulatorGuy himself. ID3PSP is an MP3 ID3 tag editor/reader for the PSP which allows you to change ID3 tags without leaving the comfort of your PSP. It currently supports ID3v1 reading and editing and ID3v2 reading; although currently it will not display tags with padding correctly.

Here's how to use it, straight from TheEmulatorGuy himself:

"Press circle to edit a ID3v1 tag. For genre+track number, use the up/down arrows to change. For others, use left/right arrows to decide which character to change, and up/down to change it. If you would like to delete a character, press square. To save, press circle, or to discard changes, press cross.

Although v1.0, TheEmulatorGuy is working on a brand new GUI and a new system for editing, as he realises that it is a little tricky to edit them at the moment; so you can expect another more functional release soon, so treat this as a beta.

Meeku's Quest RPG

The illfoundedmind Production Studio have released their homebrew RPG title for the PSP, Meeku's Quest - Beyond the Gateway. Meeku's Quest - Beyond the Gateway will hopefully fill the void of decent homebrew RPG titles for the PSP, and follows the adventures of a boy that must rise to to find the truth behind the make up of his world in order to save it from sure destruction.

This is only a technical demo and is not what you would call a "full release", and only the music, isometric field and menu are working. Unlucky for eLoader users, this RPG only works on firmwares 1.0/1.5, and due to a little mishap if you rename the folders the game won't run - so don't try it. Here's what TheEmulatorGuy (a member of the production team) said: "All work, programming/graphics and music is original and by our team. Nothing is taken. So as a note, turn your volume and brightness up".
