Sony hiring for LocoRoco 2 - Image 1Sony's efforts to push out the rumored LocoRoco sequel seem to be undermanned. A job posting at the career page of Sony Computer Entertainment's (SCEI) web site announced the need for new team players for the LocoRoco development team.

According to tipster Alex Rowe, the post also says that the new LocoRoco game is totally different from the PlayStation 3 version, LocoRoco Cocoreccho. In fact, the post describes the new LocoRoco game as one for the PlayStation Portable.

LocoRoco 2 for PSP definitely coming up - Image 1

It's been a while now since Tsutomu Kouno started talking about a sequel to the highly-successful and uber fun video game LocoRoco. It should be remembered that LocoRoco Cocoreccho for the PlayStation 3 was announced during the recently concluded Develop Conference in Brighton.

However, this is not the sequel we are talking about here. PlayStation Portable owners made the title what it is today and we reckon that they should receive some more blobs of happiness. Fortunately, the director had the same thing in mind.

When asked if there will be a sequel for the PSP, Kouno answered, "Yes, there will. I'm thinking about a sequel for the PSP right now. I got a lot of feedback from players that they bought a PSP just to play LocoRoco so I feel like I have to make a sequel for them".

There you have it, straight from the director himself. We believe it's just a matter of time before Sony makes an official statement regarding this so stay tuned for that.

Pick apart the brains of the mastermind behind the sleeper hit that had everyone singing in gibberish, Loco Roco, in this once-in-a-lifetime interview with Tsutomu Kouno. We give you the skinny on the man who thought up those rolling blobs of happy and encased them into a UMD for everyone with a PSP to enjoy.

In this video interview, Tsutomu Kouno gives a down-to-earth view of the game industry, how he started out, and what makes a game a success or a failure. He also shares a word of wisdom to aspiring game developers - that they should start off in the industry with something new, something original, something different from everyone currently in the market.

Not only that, we get a peek at the quirky mind from whence Loco Roco spawned, with his talk of flying bicycles, a snowboarding bar, and glass earrings - the third one a cringe-worthy story that has to be listened to.

Don't let us spoil everything for you, though. Enjoy the video!

Loco Roco Interactive Screen Saver, what's that? - Image 1Loco Roco creator Tsutomu Kouno has been giving hints regarding a sequel to his hit video game title. Likewise, there have been some reports in the recent weeks saying that the bouncing blobs of joy are coming to the PlayStation 3 on June 23.

There has been no official confirmation, however, from either Kouno or Sony, but one poster from the NeoGAF forums mentioned that his local retail shop has some sort of teaser for the much-desired Loco Roco sequel.

According to the poster, a "Loco Roco Interactive Screen Saver" will be available on the PlayStation Network (PSN) this June for free. The NeoGAF poster added as well that the local shop cited Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) as its source.

So if there's any truth to this, the interactive screen saver could be available only in Europe for now. There is still no word on whether or not this freebie will also be available in North America. It also seems that so far, nobody on this side of the pond has come across anything pertaining to this freebie.

We don't have to say anything more right now except that we have our fingers crossed that we'll soon be able to play Loco Roco using a SIXAXIS.

Loco Roco - Image 1Tsutomu Kouno, the mind behind the cult hit Loco Roco for the PSP, recently sat down with Games Industry to chat more about the upcoming sequel - as well as life after the phenomenon, and a few other things besides. We're here to give you the skinny on everything that's cute, squishy and sings in gibberish.

Tsutomu started things off by saying how pleasantly surprised he was about the general reaction to Loco Roco, particularly from fans outside Japan - he didn't know that it would even be received as warmly as it had been until the game was already released.

It turns out, however, that despite Loco Roco's wholesome nature, it wasn't exempt from individuals much more intent on pointing out the 'evils' of videogames, with one reporter citing that the black Moja characters in Loco Roco were racist.

Tsutomu replied to this allegation with the confession that he didn't think it was a big thing at first, and he apologized for the ruckus it's caused. He went on to say that in fact, he loved the black mojas, considering them the coolest in Loco Roco's roster of multi-colored singing beacons of happiness.

When squeezed for information about the upcoming sequel, Tsutomu was a bit snippy with the details, neither confirming nor denying if the game would only be exclusive to the PSP or the PS3. He did say, however, that he's not much interested in making a game for the Wii, seeing more potential in the EyeToy camera. He elaborates by saying that instead of having a controller be the bridge for motion-sensing gameplay, the EyeToy can instead make your whole body that bridge - thereby removing the controller in the equation and making gameplay that much more active and real.

Bad news for Wii owners looking for a Loco Roco title coming over to Ninty's console, but extremely good news for Loco Roco fans worldwide. Updates as we get them - and in the meantime, you can check out the entire interview by clicking on the read link below.

Loco Roco will have a sequel - Image 1

Video game developer Tsutomu Kouno revealed during the Nordic Game Conference that Loco Roco will indeed have a sequel and that it will feature new gameplay based on physical calculation and crowd AI, not to mention a few surprises. Ironically, now he's saying that the PlayStation Portable (PSP) platform needs more titles other than sequels.

"We need to make more new games for PSP, not just sequels. We have to increase the number of casual games, games that Loco Roco players will want to play. There are too many sequels for PSP, only sequels, so I want to make a new game for PSP," Kouno told online gaming site Games Industry.

The developer wouldn't reveal though anything about this new title. But he did mention that he actually has around six new ideas and that he is still considering whether to make them for the handheld or PlayStation 3 (PS3). Whatever happens, fans can be assured that these games will be exclusive to Sony's gaming systems. He added,

I have many ideas, but I can't make them all because I am only one person. I have five or six new game ideas either for PSP or PS3, but I actually want to make them for PSP - for the people who bought Loco Roco, or bought a PSP because of LocoRoco, and like casual games.

When asked whether Loco Roco will be appearing on the PS3 in the future, Tsutomu Kouno answered, "I can't really say anything official right now, but... As you'd expect."
