Money consoles - Image 1This is intriguing math. Gfk-ChartTrack of UK has released the data for console sales in the region up to June 27, 2009 and it shows that there is a stellar 24 million installed base in the UK to date, with 8.4 million contributing to that number in the past 12 months.

PSP Weekend Warrior - Image 1 The PSP blog saw a nice healthy balance of hardware and software news this week. PSP owners have been clamoring for a new GTA game for a long time now. This week they finally got their wish. Those holding out for a lower price point for the PSP Go, however... well, I'll just advise you not to hold your breath for it as Sony is showing no sign of backing down on this one. At least the launch titles are looking pretty good, along with the possibility of indie apps and maybe games. Read on for the rest of the PSP Weekend Warrior!

PSP Go - Image 1Following the E3 unveiling of the PSP Go, Sony's new handheld got a lot of raps for its features, its looks, and its rather unfriendly price tag. As a result, two indie retailers in the UK have not registered a single pre-order for PSP Go, leaving their respective management teams to wonder if they're gonna stock the new hardware.

Andrew House, SCEE - Image 1New SCEE president Andrew House has taken some time out to sit with MCV UK and talk about his experiences as the new big man of the company. Central to this interview would be his explanation on why the PSP Go holds the price tag that it has, and where exactly is it based from. This should clarify all those speculations as to why Sony went down this route, and hopefully will dispell any more impression that they're ripping people off.

BBFC - Image 1 Following the government decision to uphold PEGI as the sole and official ratings board in UK, the BBFC has sent their well-wishes, albeit still with that restrained barb. BBFC Director David Cooke insisted that the BBFC would have been the better choice. Meanwhile, top industry heads are giving their praises for the government's pick. Read all about it after the jump.

Pan European Game Information - Image 1In our earlier article about PEGI becoming the UK standard for game ratings, some of you expressed skepticism on how the monotone PEGI labels could fare better that the BBFC's brighter ones. Well, PEGI has the answer: they've added a splash of color to their rating labels.

PEGI - Image 1The UK government has announced that it will be going with the PEGI ratings system as the standard form of videogame classification in the region. The PEGI system will be implemented for every game released in the UK. The BBFC, which used to handle games classification, will stick to classifying and rating films and DVDs.

PSP Go - Image 1Newly appointed SCEE boss Andrew House has proven to be one slippery dude when it comes to talking about the UK pricing for the PSP Go. When asked by GamesIndustry.biz about the hefty GBP 229.99 (US$ 374) PSP Go price tag seen on several UK retailer sites, House declined to confirm anything, saying instead that the price will be given full and due consideration. More after the jump.

PSP Weekend Warrior - Image 1Even with E3 in full swing, we still managed to get some non-E3 updates on the new PSP Go hardware this week, headed by an unmasking of the "real" PSP Go. Sony has also let the gaming world in on their plans for UMD games that people may want to play on the new PSP model, but it's still just a rather vague statement as they're still putting the plan together. Until they finalize and announce this, I think there will be quite a few PSP owners who'll put off buying the Go. Read on for the rest of this week's PSP Weekend Warrior.

PSP Go - Image 1At the Sony E3 2009 Press Conference, one of the bigger announcements was the "official unveiling" of their "worst-kept secret", the PSP Go. At that time, the only pricings announced were for the US and Europe, both standing at 250. But what of the UK?
