Mr Driller is a port of the original game by Namco - Image 1

Homebrew developer wally just created a port of Namco-original Mr. Driller and released it for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) community to enjoy. Around a year ago, coder AntiroC came up with a similar release, known as Ms. Driller for PSP, over at the QJ.Net Forums.

Some of you might not be aware of this but the video game Mr. Driller was originally planned to become the third title in the Dig Dug series. Namco ultimately decided against it and packaged the game as a different game all together. A part of the reason for this move is because according to developers back then (around 1999), chain construction with hexagonal blocks was a little too complicated.

Anyway, wally said that this is actually the first version of the homebrew so don't be surprised if you'll encounter some bugs. One known issue is causing the game to pause when you press the "UP" button. Well, if that's about it, it's not too bad for a first release, eh? The objective of this homebrew is pretty much the same as the original game - get to 1000 meters with limited air and falling blocks.

Furthermore, wally added that in the next release, he is planning to incorporate certain features like techno music. In the meantime, just get a dose of good ol' Mr. Driller fun with this version. The controls and other details are in the accompanying Readme file.
