Modo (September 10, 2007 Update) - remote control support - Image 1 Modo (September 10, 2007 Update) - remote control support - Image 2

PlayStation Portable homebrew developer wbb dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum to release a new version of Modo, the ultra simple mod player application. This new build, as always, comes with several bug fixes and a couple of handy improvements.

The following changes were provided by wbb:
  • Remote control support
  • The menu browser is a bit faster (uses cache)
  • Limited playlist option added (use Triangle button to select multiple directories / files).
  • Choose a different directory after first start. Create modo.cfg and put into the first line the directory, eg: ms0:/PSP/Music
  • Vorbis/Ogg support added (via libTremor)
You can find in the Readme.txt file all the different formats supported by Modo. For starters, however, here are some of the more popular ones: 669, IT, MED, MOD, MTM, S3M, STM, and XM. The documentation should also provide you with the information needed in installing the program to your handheld units.

PSP homebrew developer wbb dropped by the QJ.NET Forums to announce a new update for the Modo ultra simple mod player application. The latest build for wbb's application carries an updated list of formats, and is now capable of playing several new files, and now also comes with multi-playlist support:

  • Modo Sept. 3 update screenshot - Image 1SPC (Snes)
  • GYM & VGMz (Sega Master System / Sega Genesis aka Mega Drive / some derivats)
  • GBS (Gameboy)
  • NSF & NSFe (Nes)
  • AY (Spectrum / Amstrad CPC)
  • SAP (Atari XL)
  • Mini-Playlist support, choose which subsongs you want hear for a multisong file (sid, nsf, ay etc.). Please see Readme.txt for details.
wbb explained that the increased support was due to embedding Blarggs' Game Music Emulation library. As a recap, users are reminded that Modo also supports the 669, IT, MED, MOD, MTM, S3M, STM and XM module formats. Users interested in picking up full details for Modo are advised to check the included file readme, and wbb's release thread over at the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums.

August 12 update for Modo, the ultra simple mod player - Image 1

Ready for some "blast from the past" moments? wbb has just landed at our PSP development forums and in the process has given us the gift of reliving the past in the form of his Modo project - an ultra simple mod player. As previously reported, Modo supports 669, IT, MED, MOD, MTM, S3M, STM and XM module format, enabling the old-schoolers among us to enjoy running these files via our PSPs.

Here's the list of changes wbb had created for this release:
  • added C64 SID & MUS playback (via libsidplay2)
  • no RSID / BASIC support (didn't manage to play these tunes at full speed)
  • support for HVSC song length database
Although Modo's already running smoothly, we're sure wbb is open to any form of suggestions regarding any kind of possible improvements for it. Just drop him a line or two at our PSP forum release thread below. Also make sure you go over the readme (its contents also viewable on the PSP forum link below) for all the pertinent info dealing with Modo's installation, usage and other features.

Modo - ultra simple mod player - Image 1

Our QJ PSP Development Forum plays witness yet again to another update on Modo, homebrew developer wbb's "ultra simple mod player." Clocking in at a tiny size of 600 KB, this couldn't get any easier to use. Modo supports 669, IT, MED, MOD, MTM, S3M, STM and XM module formats, and the August 12 update has the following changes:
  • improved playback, especially MED
  • added Pause function, press 'Select' to (un)pause module
  • problem with directory browser fixed (showing ".." not always on top)
  • fixed problem with sleep timer (after suspend it was not possible to use it again)
  • mod files are no longer checked by their extensions in the directory browser. Instead they are scanned for a valid format. That means you do not have to rename your mod files. If you have one like "MOD.my_old_amiga_tun e", you can simply put it in a directory and it will be recognized by the player.
  • added 222Mhz and a second 166Mhz mode (see readme for details)
  • removed fadeout at end of song
Make sure you check out the readme - the author has appended some extra information into the document. If you have encountered any bugs or might have suggestions, you may contact wbb and give him your feedback.

Homebrew developer wbb has released an update for Modo, the "ultra simple mod player" for the Sony PlayStation Portable, at our PSP Development Forums. This update includes the following new features and fixes:
  • Directory browser improved. Shows how many modules are in a directory and the button description is much better.
  • If a mod author put messages in instruments / samples / comment section you can cycle through via cross button.
  • You can now scroll these messages if they don't fit on the PSP display, use up and down button.
  • Before the module starts playing there is short delay now, so you can cycle to previous / next song without actually loading the current module. Use L and R button here. This allows faster file browsing.
There's also some great news for those who are interested in trying out Modo but have no files to test it with. In this new version, wbb has included one mod file - Jungle Bells - to get you guys started. Modo is compatible with 669, IT, MED, MOD, MTM, S3M, STM and XM module formats.

Please be sure to read the readme.txt file included in the download before you install Modo. You can also click on the Visit link below for more information about this piece of homebrew.
