PSP homebrew developer Youresam dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce that Netlib 2.03 is ready for use. This app, in case you weren't around since its last release, is a developer's library for Lua Player, and has been used in the online code of homebrew games like PvP Pong.

This latest release comes with a rewritten HTTP server that allows users to view the logs. youresam's also revised netlib so that netsend's 3rd argument is optional. Just be sure to be extra careful in using this release, and to report any bugs you may run into upon use.

Homebrew developer cools dropped by the QJ.Net PSP Forums earlier today and unloaded Lua Player Mod 4. It should be remembered that Mod 3 was based on LuaPlayer v0.20. This release, on the other hand, was based on v0.16 which should make it faster. cools also mentioned that Mod 4 was built using the latest sdk and lua 5.1.2.

Lua Player is a script player for your PlayStation Portable. Needless to say, it can run can run applications written in Lua, and it makes writing Lua code both faster and easier than writing for the PSP directly.

With Mod 4, cools received a lot of help from other developers alatnet, youresam, blah, and soulkiller. Given all those devs, one can expect that a lot of new things have been added to Mod 4. You won't be disappointed because that is indeed true. For the full list of functions, refer to the Read link below. For starters, here's a rough overview:

Remember Winterbells? Last Christmas, youresam gave us a PSP version of the popular flash game. Today, ro0kie42's released another version of it called 1337bells. It still has the same gameplay as the original Winterbells, but with new graphics. Instead of a bunny, you now control a stick man. The bells are now red squares, and the bird that doubles your score is now a green mushroom.

The best thing about 133tbells is the cool death screens for the little stick man (check out the screenshots below for a look at two of them). Here's what the dev has to say about it:

See, you get a rank based on your score and if it's bad score, it actually insults you (it's pretty funny) followed by the animation of the death of your stick man (don't worry he comes back), but if you get a good score, you get praised, and you can watch as the little stick man pwnz up some other guys. i made the animations myself, and i think they're pretty cool, so if you think one of them is cool as well, you can hit circle again to replay the one you just got.

 

Controls are as follows:

• d-pad/analog: move left/right
• cross: initial jump (he jumps automatically after that)
• circle: replay animations (i'll explain this later)
• start: save and quit
• L: turbo (you must hold it)

When Tactless Penguin said, "Best. Homebrew. Ever. If this doesn't make frontpage, I quit QJ," on the PSP Development Forums, we knew we had to do something. Youresam released a rather large file for people to try out for the simple purpose of checking to see if your PSP's buttons work. Suffice it to say that everyone seems to like it, so we're putting it up on the front page for people to try out.

Now, this is a 6MB button testing application for your PSP called Button Tester with LEET Graphics. The main thing that sets this apart is how well detailed the creation of this app is relative to its utility. There's a fully 3D jeep and music that happens to be in the background while you're testing the keys.

Strangely enough, that's it. It's hard to brick your PSP with something like this, but we'll tell you now that this may show up as LuaPlayer on your PSPs. That's the app itself, which we're assuming is bundled with Lua Player v0.20. In any case, give it a try. You might find yourself calling it the LEET-est homebrew ever.

Kungfro v0.1 is Calus CoRPS first foray into Lua programming for the PSP. A side-scrolling fighter, while simplistic - players can so far only jump and punch, the AI just begs to get hit, and so forth - the main feature of this game is its online versus component. As a first release, there are bound to be a few bugs to iron out, although he did have youresam's help in getting online running in the game.

Calus CoRPS also gives credit to the Sonic Battle Arena team for part of the A.I./attack code (it's only fair to cite that). Readme contains instructions for installation (you will need Lua Player to run this); and here are the controls for the game:

• x is to jump
• square is to punch
• start is to exit

youresam's back, and he's back with a vengeance. This time around, it's a cute little bunny that's here to cheer you up this season (nope, no waving wabbids here), one that hops on bells and scores big.

The dev's just created a portable version of a very entertaining game you can find and play online, Winterbells. The objective of the game is to maneuver the cute little bunny so it can jump and hit as many of the bells above it as it (well, you) can. The more bells it hits, the higher the score.

In this addictive Lua game that youresam admittedly said he released "just for today", you only need to use the X button to let the critter jump, and then use the D-pad to move it to the left or right.

Well, youresam has decided to see if anyone could help him test out something he's been working for. It's a test program that's supposed to be part of the iPodMock program, but he had some problems and released it by its lonesome.

We're currently calling it the Internet Radio Stream Saver, and it's a Lua program that'll save streaming audio onto your PSP. It's an extremely small file, perhaps to make up for the large files it might be saving, so you may want to test that out. Definitely useful if you're thinking of keeping a Howard Stern excerpt on your PSP... if he was still that popular.

Here's his instructions, by the way:

• Edit lines 2 and 3 for the stream that you are downloading.
• Run the program.
• Wait for the stream to download (I wouldnt go over 2MB).
• Hold triangle and press START, the stream will be saved to PSP/GAME/test.mp3

In any case, give it a try, send him some feedback, and see if you can help him out.

An iPod on the PSP? We're kind of iffy about posting this video from youresam called iPodMock, we didn't spot iPodMock introductions nor descriptions of the notable Netlib developer in our forums. But coming from one of the 'brewers, the video may just spark your light bulb and inspire you to tweak your PSP again. Youresam didn't provide exact instructions on how to install the interface he created in this video but he did show that it's practically possible to transform your PSP into an iPod, so to speak.

Youresam uses the analog button to navigate from the menus to the main interface to select play, pause, or any option. He also shows the Status, Clock, Now Playing, and Battery bar on the top of the PSP screen. The video is actually an update of the last one he made a little while ago, but go check out the latest here.

  

Have you ever wished that you could permaban the guy who introduced you to the Goatse link? It's what forum mods go through every day, and maybe you should have a turn at stopping the spamming. It's time for you to know just how it feels like to be a QJ mod with Youresam's new homebrew game for the PSP: EriCKY: Life of the Greatest Mod.

Turn-based combat hits the QJ forums as EriCKY does his best to fight spammers, flamers, swearers, and idiots galore. You can expect many renowned members of the QJ forums to be there, getting the "ban hammer" from EriCKY. Perhaps you can even Wright wrongs with an "OBJECTION!" attack (yep, that's the plucky DS lawyer fellow on the right picture) or just go on a rampage.

All in all, it's a fun game, and very tongue-in-cheek.  Download the game, clean up our forums, and maybe even save the world... or at least save the land of QJ! LOL. Just remember to get a LUA Player for this, alright?

Youresam, the creator of the online Lua Library known to developers as netlib has released yet another online application today, this one being a LuaPlayer v0.16 modification which allows it to scan for WiFi access points! This is a modification and therefore LuaPlayer v0.16 is still required, this new file simply overwrites a few of the old files and adds the WiFi scanning function. For those developers interested in developing homebrew applications that may use these functions, here's the code:

• Wlan.scanInit() - Activates the wifi
• Wlan.scan() -Returns a table similar to System.listDirectory(), except you have .name, .mac, and .strength (EXAMPLE: gotscan = Wlan.scan(), gotscan[1].name is the first wireless points name)
• Wlan.scanTerm() -Turns off the wifi

Remember this though, do not try to use the Wlan.scanInit() if the Wlan switch on your PSP is off as this will crash the PSP. Have fun! It may not be as glorious as the XMB's WiFi scanning tool but it certainly does the job. Thanks for the tip TheMarioKarters!
