Wolf 3D - Image 1Yesterday, PSP homebrew developer Zack released Wolfenstein 3D v4.0 which included support for Spear of Destiny. Now some of you, like BaSHhAR in our comments section, might be asking: why just SoD and not full Wolf 3D support? Ah well, your prayers have now been answered. *wink*

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - QJ.net Review - Image 1Do we really need to re-visit the Final Fantasy VII universe? After that movie where everyone hopped around all over the place while three silver-haired bikers looked for their mum, we're not quite sure that we do. Now that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is here, however, we'd have to say that this part of the Final Fantasy series needs a look back on - a very long, hard one. This is our review of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

We've drooled over the scans, we've been stunned over the trailers, we've fantasized over the merchandise - it's just too bad, though, that everything about Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation Portable is pretty much in Japanese, without the slightest hint of English in sight (barring the title and character names, of course).

However, all that may have changed with this trailer video update of the game - with the game's credits in the King's own English.

The trailer itself features snippets of the game's cinematics, featuring both new and old characters from the Final Fantasy VII universe. There's a bit of a homage to the beginning of the original game - namely Zack landing upon a train heading into the depths of Midgar, pretty much how Cloud infiltrated a Mako Power Plant along with the rest of AVALANCHE. Totally awesome.

Of course, this could also be just a little teaser of Square Enix's - remember the tech demo they made of Final Fantasy VII running on next-gen graphics? Fingers remain in their crossed positions, however, as it'd also be too cruel for the company responsible for the epic RPG franchise not to grace us with an NA release. That'd just be criminal.

In any case, enjoy the video!

The last time we updated you on the highly-anticipated game that promises to tie up all the loose ends about Cloud, Sephiroth and Zack of Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation Portable, we gave you a few nifty-yet-blurry scans to chew on. Now, thanks to zak234 and tipster Mehso, we can finally see in high-resolution glory just what's in store for PSP users all over the world when the game finally gets released, through these improved scans.

One thing to note with these scans - now that we can really see the actual images without squinting or resorting to Photoshop trickery - is that the visual quality of the characters are absolutely stunning. In all honesty, Sephiroth, Tifa, Zack and Cloud never looked so good and similar to their Advent Children selves - and that's with their in-game counterparts, mind.

Square Enix definitely has a classic on their hands, with a massive fanbase eagerly anticipating their next trip into Midgar. It doesn't hurt that they kept most of the game's roots intact, as evidenced by Odin's Zantetsuken attack. It's good to have the the sword-wielding guy back on your side and slashing things in half, isn't it?

Updates as we get them. Enjoy the scans!

Thanks to tipster Mehso!

Sony PSP - Image 1With the PlayStation 3's firmware 1.90 now up and ready for use among the owners, Sony has also updated the PlayStation Portable to firmware 3.52. This latest update reportedly carries an improved PlayStation Network lineup. At least, that's what we're interpreting from an Engrish taken from Sony Japan's official PSP firmware update site:
  • PLAYSTATION Network title performance in order to play was strengthened.
We also picked up word from tipster Someone_PR that this is what the US upgrade will look like:
  • The number of PlayStation Network titles that can be played under [game] has increased
That said, we're also speculating that we might be looking at more security updates. That's the rough on the this latest firmware's features - we'll report again when we pick up Sony's official changelog for North America. Keep alert until then. We'd like to thank Zack, and Someone_PR for tipping us off on this news.

Limited edition Crisis Core packshot - Image 1Square Enix has spilled the beans on the contents of the Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Limited pack for the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. The special edition pack was announced at the PlayStation Premier press conference in Tokyo.

The pack includes a silver PlayStation Portable adorned with a Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII logo and an image of Zack and Cloud at the back. The PSP included in the Crisis Core bundle will be one of the new slim model PSPs. The limited edition PSP unit will also come bundled with an exclusive Buster Sword strap and a copy of the game.

The Crisis Core bundle will be in Japanese retail stores on September 13 with a price tag of 25,890 yen (US$ 212). Only 77,777 of these babies will be produced and, judging by the franchise's popularity, it looks like they'll be selling quite fast.

Check out the images below for a look at the limited edition slim PSP and the Buster Sword strap. The image to the right is the packshot of the Crisis Core copy included in the bundle.
