Amstrad CPC464

If you've enjoyed the PSPCAP32: Amstrad CPC Emulator for PSP v1.1.0 that was released by zx-81 last June 20, 2006 here at QJ, then you surely are going to love this. He has recently announced that Loic Daneels has updated his keyboard files pack for the PSPCAP32. You now have mapping for over 470 CPC games from the 380 you previously had.

PSPCAP32 was originally called as Caprice32, which imitates the CPC464 (which was designed to take Commodore 64 and Sinclair ZX Spectrum head on), CPC664 (with a built-in cassette tape deck), and CPC6128 (with a floppy disk drive) models to a tee.

PSPVBA

Big news for the PSP Emulation scene today.  A new Gameboy Advance emulator was released in our very own QJ.net Forums.  Here are the updates for you.

- Better Speed
- Add new render modes (scanline)
- Add FPS/CPU statistics
- The Start key is now usable
- Sound off increase speed
- Many bug fix
- Big Code cleaning

Two binary versions of the emulator (for 2.0 and 1.5) and sources are included in the zip archive.  Also the game does not work with the Tiff exploit for those of you trying to run it on newer firmware (2.0).  You will have to use the GTA exploit.

This emulator was created by Zx-81, with a help from Tommydanger on the 2.0 firmware debugging.

PSPVBA

PSPVBA v1.01 is a Gameboy Advance emulator port to the PSP by none other than our resident emulator porting machine, Zx-81, who was featured in a QJ interview earlier today. Zx-81 has pulled away from his habit of producing games for unknown machines and has moved into the mass market! This is a beta release, and so as you can expect doesn't currently run at full speed, but with the coding powers of Zx-81 behind it, I'm confident that PSPVBA will progress to run many games at full speed in no time.

This said, PSPVBA still features all that you would expect for a Zx release including sound and savegame support; as well as customizable key mapping and the ability to take screenshots. The sound support in this version is also a little jumpy, and is based on the work of psp298.

It's nice for me to hear about this because the original Gameboy is almost like the grandfather to the PSP. It started the portable console trend, and the Game Boy has sold in the millions over time. No matter how good the graphics are on PSP UMD games, it's always good to reminisce over what has been. Pokemon, Mario, here we come!

As with all Zx releases, the source code is included, and this is packaged under the GNU public license. You can make any changes to the source you want, but be sure to read Copying.txt beforehand. Further information on VirtualBoyAdvance can be found by clicking here.

PSPAtari v1.0.2

Zx-81 recently released through our forums, an updated version of his PSPAtari emulator (v1.0.2.). It has only been more than a week since he has come up with a beta version of this emulator and now he has already produced an update! Now, that's hard work and we appreciate it!

So just what is new with this new version? According to the good developer, this is what you can expect from this one:
  • Sound support
  • Add various render modes (normal/fit/x1.25 ...)
  • Code cleaning and bug fix
  • New virtual keys
For more information on how to use it, don't hesitate to click on the README.txt file included in the download. He also wanted to tell you guys that sources are included, and this package is under the GNU public license. Read COPYING.txt file for more information about it.

Of course, there's always room for improvement. Surely your constructive observations, suggestions, and even criticisms will be welcomed by Zx-81.  So don't hesitate to speak your mind about it through your comments.

MSX was conceived by Kazuhiko Nishi, once a Microsoft Japan (now ASCII Corporation) executive, who was attempting to create a single standard by which any company could build a compatible computer. Games that had their humble beginnings in the MSX include Dragon Quest, Metal Gear, Gradius and Castlevania.

Marat Fayzullin has come up with fMSX, a program that emulates MSX, MSX2, and MSX2+ 8bit home computers, that was later ported by Vincent van Dam on SDL. Now, Zx has successfully modified and ported the source code of version 2.7.0.40 of fMSX-SDL and is now working fine on PSP.
