PSP - Image 1Want to pimp your PSP without hassle? One of the few good places to start is with your unit's cross-media bar. The homebrew scene was recently bombarded by a lot of custom XMB waves, so this should be easy. (One homebrew coder even came out with a flasher application to preview these custom xmb waves first before actually trying them out.)

This app that's just been released adds to the long list. However, coder Vulpix's tgaWave Custom Wave Texture Injector v0.3 is somewhat different as it doesn't require hex-editing.

All you need is an image editing program such as Photoshop and you can already edit your wave's texture by applying filters to whatever image. Vulpix was good enough to provide all readers with a step-by-step process on how to use this application:

  • Open system_plugin_bg_deflate_part2.tga in your favorite image editing program (Photoshop/GIMP/etc).
  • Change the wave texture as desired by using filters in Photoshop or whatever.
  • Save the targa file with the same name as you opened it with.
  • Run start.bat.
  • Put system_plugin_bg.rco that was created in /vsh/resource/
  • Done!

Vulpix,

Would I be able to add this to my Custom PSP theme pack?

I put together all of the best psp programmes and themes in one pack.

Your programme would be ideal!

What firmwares are supported? Can use this to alter fw 3.10's labels? Where can I get a proper decrypted top_menu.rco for fw 3.10?

Thanks

This is wrong. You *DO* need to hex edit the TGA. you need to replace all instances of FF with C2 and replace the last 18 bytes with 0B002800DCD5010028000000280000007073705F6C6F6F70.
An ass to do, but beleive me, it looks BRILLIANT.
Use the file i've linked to below compressed in a zip file.
I've already modded it to work. Just extract the TGA from there and overwrite the one that comes with it.

There's the URL. Enjoy.

semibricked xD f*** 45kb system_plugin_bg.rco

I think it must be under 41kb... and the tga must be 256colors yes -.- damn gimp.. damn paint.net

*system_plugin_bg.rco replaced* *love DAX, love DAX*

 » @ Ryan. A

You might wanna fix what you said. Vulpix said that there was less hex editing involved, not no hex editing involved.
Please read carefully before writing a topic, you just semi-bricked one of your reader's PSP units (DevilGun)

   Re: DevilGun - 2007-02-13
 » :)

thanks.. i'll try your method :)

   Re: MickMog - 2007-02-13
» semi bricked being the right word

anyone flashing with OE must be aware of the risks before he gets there, not only custom, but custom-customising....riskier than the norm.
u gotta learn how to use recovery mode someday....why not when u make a f@ck up as he did, hehe, chillman its not his fault, there maybe a slight language barrier where EVER the author is from....and wherever the downloader is.....
anyone downloadin of the WORLD Wide Web should account for this

 » Sorry if...

Sorry if it sounded like I was being rude. But the fact is, regardless of whether it was intentional or has caused problems.

@DevilGun: Yeah, you are supposed to be able to design your own ones, but it seems that everyones struggling.

   Re: ultimax - 2007-02-13
 » Oh

Download the file I posted above and try that. It worked for me.
I've uploaded an RCO that uses the flame effect too. Don't worry, it's legal, and if it's not... then the program isn't either.

Download it via the URL below.

http://www.uploadtemple.com/view.php/1171401211.zip

Flash that straight to your PSP.

flash0:/vsh/resource/
   by DevilGun - 2007-02-13
 » lol

i thought the point of this program is, to build my own wave.. not to flash yours ;)

   by MickMog - 2007-02-13
 » think sense peeps

if it works for one but not others,,,,are those who got it RIGHT just lucky? or does it work as its instructed???
lol, it works, use it right & check all filesizes & changes with instructions ;-)

   Re: Ultimax (Unregistered) - 2007-02-14
» no such thing as luck

try using the default TGA first. If it still dosn't work, then you're doing something wrong with the hex editing.

 » color mode

Image>Mode>RGB Color.

double click on the layer and click ok. its now editable.

anything i do from then on makes the waves completely disappear. maybe it has to be a different color mode? a few more guidelines would be nice. :)

When your psp doesn't go past the SCE intro then just put the original unedited file into your flash0 via the recovery menu.

 » QJ Listen!

QJ editors pleaseee upgrade the tgaWave rar to version .5 thanks!

   Re: Ultimax (Unregistered) - 2007-02-14
 » AAAAAAAAAAHHH

So THAT would explain why only I managed to get it working. I was using version 0.4, not 0.3, because I came across this proggy on the forums. I guess writing the article takes a bit of time.

QJ dosn't seem to have fixed this or replied to anything. I recommend just going straight to the forum release thread.
